From Struggle to Strength: My Story

When I first started college, I was passionate about learning and excelling in my studies. But my journey wasn’t always easy. Born with strabismus, I wore glasses from just 14 months old and faced challenges similar to those experienced by students with dyslexia. Reading and writing were never simple, yet I was determined to succeed. Years later, as I pursued graduate studies, I realized how crucial mentorship and personalized guidance were in overcoming academic struggles. That realization led me to become a college essay tutor, helping students navigate their own challenges and develop confidence in their writing.

Why I Became a Writing Tutor

I started my career in the traditional classroom, witnessing firsthand the systemic issues preventing students from thriving. Standardized expectations, administrative pressures, and curriculum constraints made teaching feel like a job rather than a mission. I wanted more—I wanted to see real progress in my students.

So, I leaped to tutoring. At first, I worked with a large tutoring company, quickly realizing that while they charged families high fees, they compensated their tutors minimally. I knew I could offer a better, more personalized approach on my own, and that is precisely what I set out to do.

My Unique Approach

I know it sounds cliché, but I meet students exactly where they are. Every learner is different, and I take the time to diagnose their specific strengths and challenges. From there, I craft personalized, creative lesson plans tailored to each student’s needs. My goal is not just to improve writing skills but to help students recognize their intelligence and potential.

I also work closely with parents to ensure they are integral to the process. With clear communication and a results-driven approach, I have helped students achieve incredible success, from earning top scores on AP English exams to crafting college essays that secured spots at prestigious universities like Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame, and even international institutions in Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK.

Beyond Tutoring: A Life of Exploration and Creativity

When not working with students, I am outdoors, hiking new trails and exploring new places. Traveling—both within the U.S. and abroad—is a passion of mine. I love road trips, art museums, writing at the beach, and quiet evenings knitting by the fireplace. These experiences fuel my creativity and bring fresh perspectives to my teaching.

My Message to Students and Parents

Writing is hard—but it is often the belief that makes it feel that way. I hear students say, “I’m not good at writing” or “I can’t write,” and these limiting beliefs become my biggest challenge to overcome. That’s why my first job as a college essay tutor isn’t just about improving writing skills—it’s about changing the way students see themselves as writers. With the right guidance and encouragement, every student can craft an essay that tells their unique story and makes a lasting impact on college admissions officers.

College essays aren’t just about writing; they’re about confidence, clarity, and self-discovery. If you or your student feels stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to craft an essay that truly stands out, I’m here to help.

With personalized guidance and a supportive approach, I’ll help uncover the unique story that makes your application unforgettable. You have a voice—let’s make sure admissions officers hear it.
